hemp hurd vs alternatives
Why hemp bedding outperforms traditional options.
maintaining a healthy habitat

line the cage
Start by evenly spreading the bedding across the bottom of your pet's cage (3"- 4"). This creates a cozy and comfy surface for them to roam around.
easy clean up
Spot clean by romoving wet or soiled areas, and replace the bedding monthly to keep things fresh.
Compost
When it's time to change things up, don't toss the bedding. Add it to your compost bin or garden, where it will break down into nutrient-rich soil, perfect for your plants.
From Stalk to Finished material
Cultivation and harvest
We work with local farmers to grow industrial hemp specifically for its strong stalks. Once the plants are ready, they’re harvested at the right time to ensure consistent, high-quality material.
Separate the stalk
After harvest, hemp stalks are mechanically processed through decortication, a method that separates the woody inner core from the outer fibers. This process produces hemp hurd, the natural material used for animal bedding.
Dust removal & cleaning
The hemp hurd is thoroughly cleaned using screening and air systems to remove fine dust and particles, creating a low-dust material that’s easier to work around.
Bagging & Delivery
The clean hurd is sorted into consistent sizes to create a soft, mulch-like texture. The finished material is then checked for quality and prepared for packaging or bulk delivery.
Frequently Asked Questions
Hemp bedding usually costs more per bag, but it lasts much longer. Because hemp absorbs up to 4× its own weight and clumps wet spots together, you remove less material when cleaning. That means fewer replacements over time—and many customers find they save significantly on bedding costs compared to pine or straw.
No. This is industrial hemp, grown for its stalks—not for flower or drug use. It contains 0% psychoactive effects and will not get animals high. It’s safe to use around animals and in enclosed spaces.
Yes. One of the biggest advantages of hemp bedding is that it’s 99% dust-free. The material is mechanically cleaned to remove fine particles, making it easier to breathe around than traditional pine or straw bedding.
Much less often than traditional options. Instead of stripping everything out, most users simply spot clean wet areas and keep the dry bedding in place. With light refreshing, hemp bedding can last for months, reducing both labor and waste.
Most animals adapt quickly to hemp bedding and prefer it for its comfort and cleanliness. It’s widely used in farming and animal care applications, with benefits that vary by species and environment.
Yes. Hemp bedding breaks down naturally and composts faster than wood shavings. Because it’s carbon-rich, it pairs well with manure and turns into nutrient-rich compost instead of sitting in a pile for years.
